Just curious. Are there any thoughts out there on what the typical Pass mark is for the LAM (or even LRM when it was around) exam? I know it’s 40 points total so what’s a safe mark for passing? 25?
Yankeefan22 I just poked around the SOA website and was surprised to not find the answer. The CAS publishes an "Examiner's Report" which details how students did on each question, the points required to pass the exam, and some overall commentary.
I would imagine it couldn’t be more than a 27 or 28 or else it wouldn’t be possible to get a 10. For example if 30 is the pass mark, 33 would be a 7, s6 for an 8 and 39 for a 9 which would mean a 10 isn’t even possible. I guess they could do that but I would imagine it isn’t common.
Any other thoughts?
This thread has some anecdotal evidence the pass mark is 62-66%.
I'd shoot for at least 70%. And if you can find a practice problem you don't know how to answer, you need to study more!
